My dad owned a 666
I smell *Fallout* Edit: Like no seriously this gives off Fallout 4 (or at least New Vegas) vibes
Loved seeing all those Ford tandem dump trucks. Brought a tear to my eye seeing them. I used to ride with my uncle since 76-77 when I was 8 years old. Learned to drive one in 81-82. They are my absolute favourite trucks!!!
Koehring made the Bantam Teleskoop truck mounted excavator ? Similar to a Gradall, but the bucket twisted at the wrist vs the entire boom rotating. In the early 1980’s I worked for an excavating contractor who purchased a brand new Teleskoop mobile excavator. I remember him telling me that he paid 72K (a-lot of money in 1980)
Early hydraulic excavators with mechanical propel and swing(?).
Nice
This is one of the best and most honest EV video I have viewed. I own a 2020 Bolt and had a Leaf before this. The mychevrolet app is not good as it crashes constantly. Planning is the key and yes drive a little slower, use heated seats over heater. personally I will never buy another ICE vehicle the Bolt is the best car I have ever owned. All the negative info is spread by those who don't own an EV. If you wish to get the true info talk to people who own EV's is my advice. Thank you for a great video
This is really cool and brought back great memories from my early years when I was a machine buff. I remember the first time I saw a kohering 1466 on a sewer line project where I grew up and I was in awe at the size of that machine. The bucket cylinder diameter was absolutely enormous. Needless to say I was impressed. This is terrific to see this footage, never new it existed. Thanks for posting 👍😎
Nice video! I just recently got a '23 Bolt and I absolutely love it. I can run around town for weeks on a charge, or go back and forth to work all week on a charge, but if I road trip I'm going to take our prius. Having 1 extremely fuel efficient hybrid and 1 electric car 8s a perfect fit for our house.
Thanks for the info 🙏🏽
Jim Holtan Ultra HD 4K !!!??? спасибо
I wish I could find a free charger in SF. I live in Fresno and can charge for free. But I’d like to drive in SF a couple days a week. Does anyone know one in SF.
Wow, wish I could find one in Escondido
I would love to find some info on the conveyor loader they briefly showed at 3:40 if anyone has any leads
this is awesome
My father worked as a computer operator in the Concordia plant in Milwaukee from the early 1970s into the 80s. I remember seeing this film at one of the family day events the company held out in Oconomowoc, then being bussed out to the proving ground to see the full product line of Koehring, Bantam, and Loraine lined up. Pretty overwhelming for an eight or so year-old engineerling.
That's a great memory.
Do you remember where the proving grounds were?
@@user-ru7od4sg9k AS I remember, in Genesee Depot, across I-94 from where the outlet mall is today.
🙈 Promo`SM
It dose no justice to size tell you see one load a tri axel in one scoop
I’m glad you guys stayed in my wonderful city of Glendale CA 😊
So freaking cool
Thank you Jim
Looks like a great trip. Thanks for sharing. And yours is the first long distance EV trip video I’ve seen where every stop wasn’t at Walmart! 😂😂😂
Thank you sir, just ordered mine for my other channel and podcast, Have a good day
I take it you didn't get to Palm Springs in one trip from Phoenix. No?
One charge? No.
Denny's, I agree. I've had several, not to good, visits at one particular Denny's in Houston, Tx. that my brother insist we frequent while visiting on one's birthday. Not good.
That dramatic 70's music! They just don't make machines and documentaries like this nowadays. Excellent presentation Jim.
Yeah nowadays it's only with superhero music, a bit too much overwhelming
Thanks Jim!!!
Seems like you planned your trip well, even with contingencies. I may one day consider buying a ev.
How much does it cost to charge if you have to pay.
One thing we talk about at the end of the video, is the cost. Always check the charging companies cost before you hook up. It varies greatly. EVgo is very consistent in their pricing, however, ChargePoint varies per site. On an average, you can expect to pay between $10 and $20 when going from, say a 20% charge on your battery to an 80% charge.
Vaccinated? In prayers!
wheres my boy baris??????
are you sure there's no membership fees?
evgo is a rippoff they charge $1/kwh for Solar Power

I loved heavy equipment as a kid in the 80s and still do. I haven't seen a Koehring in many years. Link Belt was another brand I never see anymore. Cat 977 track loaders we're everywhere back then too, that is a rare machine to see nowadays. I remember so much equipment I loved that is all gone now. The John Deere track loaders with the backhoe attachments, and Barber Greene bucket wheel trenchers.
Link Belt still produce excavators today....they are owned by and are a division of Sumitomo of Japan
Ha ha, "this is the first high speed charger we have used" The Bolt does not high speed charge. If one was not in. a hurry to get somewhere like you retired folks the bolt is the worst road trip of almost all EVs! Oh, and those seats....terrible!
Usually for long trips, even with gas cars at it disposal, we just rent and put the wear and tear on the rental. Anyway. Great video. There is something to be said for the enforced slow down in the trip pacing when you travel.
Are you running AC? or any other electrical items
Since we took the trip in March, it wasn’t a high point for temperatures, which was good. While AC doesn’t take as much energy as the heater, it’s still a drain on the battery you’ll want to minimize when you can. My work frequently takes me from Oakland, California to Sacramento (about a 90 mile drive one way). On hot days, I AM going to use the AC. Starting with a full charge, I can usually make the round trip without recharging. Basically, a multitude of factors (hills, wind, heat, cold, speed) are going to affect your individual trips, so there’s no ‘standard’ you can count on to pre-judge your trip. That’s why I stated EVs require you to be flexible!
This video is a few years old but still relevant. No disrespect, but I am impressed, not all older couples are as up to speed on technology as you are. I am in the process of trying to buy a Bolt.
Nice video. I would say that no one except those retired or unemployed and not looking for work with no care for time, could road trip like this. I have driven 650 max in a day in the bolt twice. I think 500 is reasonable. In a gas vehicle about 1000 a day is reasonable. Another point if anyone is considering electric, I bought my Bolt new (premier) for 25,900. Now you’ll have to spend about 33 for a premier. Best car ever for commuter though especially at that price.
Is anyone gonna mention that thumb???? Just kidding, mine does the same 😁 Great video!
They didn't even know where they were living lol. F tarded fools
I like watching these old videos. Thanks for posting
I've been wanting to buy a Bolt but there are none available anywhere in my region. The battery replacement really killed their momentum it seems because dealers haven't had any around here in years.
Get ready. Production has resumed. Chevy is about to launch a major advertising campaign. That means they’re going to need to have bolts in stock at the dealers. I believe that will happen shortly.
Awesome road trip! Thank you for sharing
How is the car overall? Loke maintenance costs and stuff
Thanks for the video and review of the Denny's in Blythe. I will be making my first road trip with my '20 Bolt. Your video made my anxiety levels go away. I feel much more confident in my Bolt. Thanks for the review.
Please tell me how to buy this unit
Excellent video and it’s great to see great people like you and your wife making the quantum leap into the EV world. To optimise the trip, always try to charge the Bolt EV from 10 to 60-65% max to go to the next charging station.
Very informative. Has yours been recalled for the battery issue? (fire)
Yes, all Bolt's are under the recall order. While the 2020 and more recent models have improved batteries, Chevrolet has included these models in the recall as an abundance of caution. I would say Chevrolet is handling the matter responsibly. All Bolt owners will get new batteries and restart the battery's 8 year warranty at the time of installation. The battery issue is disappointing, but I would still say the Bolt is an excellent car. Hopefully they will soon be again on the market.
